Winter rules all in Deer Lake. If you are looking for an outdoor adventure, then this is the place to be. Come play in the snow with the longest season in Newfoundland, and the heaviest annual snowfall. No other place compares when it comes to outdoor excitement and adventure.
It is no wonder that Deer Lake is the headquarters for the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation. With hundreds of kilometers of groomed snowmobiles trails awaiting you, and the newly constructed championship snow-cross racing oval, you can test all your snowmobiling handling skills. Go further into the Long Range Mountains than any other time of the year as you explore old and new trails, past lakes, waterways and postcard perfect settings. Don't forget your camera or boil-up gear! Or get a rush as you test your timing and skills in the racing oval. It is sure to attract the best sledders around, and you could hone your skills to become the next superstar on the snow-cross circuit!
If you would rather slow things down and enjoy the crisp winter air, then bring your skis and go on one of the many cross country trails found in and around the area. Or, take a short drive and head to Marble Mountain to take advantage of the best skiing and snowboarding available, east of the Rockies. Race down any of the 27 world-class runs during the day or night, use the trails for cross-county skiing, dogsledding, or snowshoeing, or relax in the ski lodge and enjoy the local entertainment.
Once the playing is done for the day, find a way to unwind with some of the best theatre festivals, shopping, and dining experiences available anywhere. Visit the Roy Whelan Heritage Museum to learn more about early history of the town, or take advantage of the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex, which has a swimming pool and a bowling alley.
